Work for Yourself First and Then for the Company
Do you work for a company or for yourself ?
Often in my interviews with candidates across different positions, my first advice to them is that ” I don’t want you to work for Escorts” and they are rather surprised when they hear me say that. I don’t blame them for being surprised, but then I tell them that “work for yourself because you are a proud professional and you want to grow each day to become what it takes to become your best self”. Self respect is so important! We should be true to ourselves before we are to anyone else…
If we are true to what we do, then my second advice is that “Use #Escorts as your means to fulfil your aspirations”.
And if we were to combine the individual goals with that of the company, then we would have what we call “the most desired state in an organisation!!” And this is my job each day and every day at work…. To get the best talent and help them and the company to become their best.
My provocation for writing this blog was from my recent visit to a customer. The meeting was most enjoyable because it was candid!!
In the feedback session, it came out that the customer had asked for a price for one of our construction product and he never heard back from us!!! And I am wondering why that would happen??
This feedback left me very disturbed! And it will be more disturbing if I were not to act, if it were concluded that this was a neglect due to indifference.
The indifferent attitude not only kills the company but also the professional who chooses to become subservient to it.
While I believe that we must do what we do with pride, honesty, empathy and with an attitude to excel and better our ways with our experiences of each day. At the same time it’s equally important to EXIT people who have a negative attitude and who choose to walk that path of indifference.
As a leader, I am left with no choice but to show them the EXIT door.
But I leave you with what I believe, that if you are honest to yourself , the customer will see that in you and so will the company.
