Lessons from Great Achievers
I was recently invited for the twenty five living legend award ceremony at the Rashrapati Bhavan for the silver jubilee celebration of NDTV.
The priviliedge to share the evening with such elite achievers from different walks of life, made the evening even more special. Each of the awardees were asked to share three tips with the young generation of india.
To mention a few Ms. #Indra Nooyi’s first advice, “always be a student, you should never stop being student in life. If you adapt this attitude then you shall always learn things in life.” Her second advice, “what ever you do, do so with passion and throw yourself into it completely.” And her third, that “if you enjoy power of a certain position in an organisation or in life, then it is your responsibility for you to help others get there. ”
#Sachin tendukar also had few advice for the young and that was to stay away from their electronic gadgets and instead get into healthier activities. He felt no matter what profession that you are into , if you don’t enjoy good health then you will not be fit for any job.
Mr. Mukesh Ambani felt that there was no point in just wanting to be india’s best and instead to pursue to become world ‘s best, in short aim for excellence always.
Others talked about:-
#Waheeda Rehman “take risks and don’t fear failure ”
A nobel laureate #Venkataraman Ramakrishnan “keep your options open, when there are set backs”
Sachin tendulkar “when you face defeat, rise and take on another challenge”
#Kapil dev” if you don’t dream, you’ll never reach anywhere”
#Narayan Murthy “courage most important attribute of a great leader”
#MS Swaminathan “future belongs to nation with grain not guns”
#Amitabh bachchan” if you desire something and you get it then great, but if not then even better because the almighty has something better in store for you”
#Amartya sen in a humorous mood”its much nicer to hear wise things being said by others than have to say them yourself”
#Rajni Kant “miracles do happen, I was a bus conductor and today I am in front of you”
#Vikram seth “intolerance is violence and accepted intolerance is violence with the acquiesce of society”
#Shahrukh khan ” don’t try to be someone else, but be yourself because everyone else is taken”
#Ratan Tata “fortunate to see the country transition from a controlled economy to an open one”
#Mukesh Ambani”dream big, if you focus on the goal, you will overcome obstacles”
#Leander paes “its amazing what can be achieved with a little bit of hard work”
#Hariprasad Chaurasia ” if you respect your parents, god will be with you”
#Fali nariman ” we need to recognise that there is no justification for poverty in the world and diversity is key to life”
#Y k Hamied ” cornerstone of success is education”
#Zubin mehta” without hard work, dedication and honesty none of us would be here”
At the end of the event, I felt that they all had something in common and that was their passion and love for what they did. What they did was not 9 to 5 routine job, but it was their deep passion and love that kept them awake to pursue their dream. Their positive attitude was infectious and their passion of what they did was so energising that for a second you felt an energy of a nuclear plant within them.
We all have talents and we too all can become who we choose to become, my intent to share this evening was to get you to reflect on your dreams. Do you have a dream? Do you want to accomplish something in your life? Do you want to be remembered for something you did for your society or for your county?
Don’t let your dreams die, pursue them, achieve them and run after them, because the real answer is that you can achieve what you dream. YES YES you can and DON’T let that negative voice tell you that you can’t.
I do believe that we all are born with great qualities and in this life time, it is our responsibility to understand it and make them real.
In time of struggle, we do feel frustrated, instead adopt an attitude that all of this is good for my growth and these lessons are important for my graduation to becoming a great man/women that I dream of.
As Kapil dev says above, if you don’t dream you will never reach anywhere, so my friends, dream on and also work towards fulfilling it…
May all your dreams come true and wishing you all a Merry Christmas
